in 2005 me and my husband moved to the west midlands, to start a new life. we had many friends up here already, some of them family of neighbours in exeter.we found wolverhampton down to earth and friendly. we especially liked all the markets as exeter market had closed down. west midlands shops are cheaper and there was less need for credit. we first rented a private flat in blakenhall. but it was infested with rats and woodworm.while living here our peugeot that we bought five years before was written off by a speeding drunk driver who had no insurance who mounted the kerb and smashed into our passenger side.i got whiplash and then arthritus in my neck.over the next year we had several old bangers two of which got vandalised in the scotlands estate.our last old banger broke down on the motorway coming back from a weekend in exeter. the head gasket had blown. we had many arguments with our friends caused by these car incidents. but west midlanders are very forgiving and don't bear grudges.but when i get slapped or punched i take it badly because of my health problems. in the end we bought a brand new car two years ago and we have had no problems with it. apart from a tiny dent caused by council workmens barriers falling over in the wind. from blakenhall we moved to heath town and then east park. we now know a lot more people here. we have friends in family pubs who remember my father and some of them used to work with him in cardiff. we are thinking of moving back to devon because of violence in pubs and the cold weather. but we would miss people and the area.
